Whether you’re starting from scratch, looking for a refresh, or wondering what you could do better, our web team will make sure you get it right.
Design that does more than look good.
Good design doesn’t decorate a message. It carries it. It shapes how something feels before a single word is read, and it keeps working long after the page loads.
We’ve been designing for the web and print for more than 25 years, and in that time, we’ve learned that the most effective design isn’t the loudest or the most elaborate. It’s the kind that makes everything else work better.
Good design is invisible. Bad design is not.
Most people can’t tell you exactly why a website feels off, or why a logo doesn’t quite work, or why a book cover doesn’t make them want to pick it up. They just know. And that gut reaction happens in seconds, long before they’ve read a single word of copy or clicked a single link.
That’s the power of design, and it’s also the risk. Get it right and people trust you immediately. Get it wrong and they’re gone before you’ve had a chance to make your case.
We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t, across a wide range of industries and an eclectic mix of clients. We understand how design decisions affect discoverability and engagement, and we know how to build something that holds up well past the first impression.
1998-2002
Launched as Surf This! Web Design and headquartered in metro DC, we helped businesses and federal clients like the CDC, DoD, and NIH take some of their earliest steps online. From web design and multimedia kiosks to desktop- and browser-based applications, we brought conventional clients to the cutting edge.
2003-2009
HQ moved to Brooklyn, NY, and triggered rapid evolution in our services, our team, and our client list. Our design group expanded into branding and identity, and our strategy group launched with an eye toward SEO, marketing, and growth. Along the way, Surf This! became field15 to acknowledge all the new ground we were covering.
2011-2023
Reorganization and restructuring led the way to our home office in Providence, RI. The global transition to cloud-based computing inspired the birth of our infrastructure and operations services. And our bond with publishing cemented as we partnered with authors, artists, and agents like Naomi Klein, V, and Roam Agency.
2024-Present
With a fresh new look and sharpened focus, we embarked on a new era. While AI sent shockwaves through the arts, corporate media devoured everything in its path, and big tech laid waste to long-established business models, we continued providing authentic partnership and clear guidance, even through the murkiest of waters.
